A permanent reminder of a Heartland man's sacrifice for his country is now in place for every passing motorist to see for years to come.

The late Adam O. Smith, a Navy SEAL from Bevier, was honored in his hometown Thursday.
    

Smith was killed in Afghanistan in September 2010.

    
Thursday, the interchange at Highway 36 and Routes C and O in Bevier was renamed "Heroes Way" in his honor.

Much of the community turned out to support Smith's mother, Michele Jorgenson.

Many veterans were on also on hand to display American flags at the city park.

Family friend Mike Miller is happy to see his friend honored.

“This way you know it's not just for the community but when people drive through 36 and they see Adam O. Smith Navy SEAL killed in action that means something,” said Miller.
   
Adam O. Smith was a 2002 graduate of Bevier High School. He entered the navy in 2004.
    
Smith also served in Iraq with his brother, Andrew, and two of his cousins.
